2018 CAAT Conference: Testing Tomorrow's Autonomous Vehicles Today

Description

2018 Center for Advanced Automotive Technology Conference: Testing Tomorrow's Autonomous Vehicles Today Detroit Michigan is well known as the Motor City and the heart of the American automotive industry. The state's rich automotive history includes Henry Ford's use of the assembly line in manufacturing automobiles first used on the Model-T. This model for mass production was subsequently adapted by other industries and revolutionized manufacturing. Today, the automotive industry is experiencing a new revolution that will drive the future of mobility in new directions as vehicle and transportation technologies evolve in ways that would have been hard to imagine just a few years ago. And once again, Michigan is leading the way. Behind the industry's push toward electrification and automation, lighter-weight materials, and connecting vehicles to their passengers and surroundings, is the desire to increase safety, make transportation more affordable and convenient, provide new transportation options to better suit the needs of today's driver's and those unable to drive themselves, and reduce emissions and their impact on the environment. Simultaneously, technology-enabled services for ride-sharing and car-sharing are providing new options to get passengers from one point to the next, often with nothing more than a phone in hand. This convergence of technology-driven innovation requires us to explore the changing landscape of mobility and consider the new and unique challenges of testing autonomous vehicles. Will traditional physical testing take a back seat to cutting-edge computerized simulation testing with its promise of bringing the future to us sooner with greater safety and less expense? The conference will explore how automakers are looking at the future of mobility and testing vehicles for an endless array of possible driving scenarios, and how technical training will need to adapt and change. Target Audience The conference is targeted to automotive industry representatives and secondary and post-secondary automotive educators, counselors, and administrators. Representatives from automotive-related government and professional organizations are also encouraged to attend.
