Description
The Department of Postsecondary Education in conjunction with the Consortium for Alabama Regional Center for Automotive Manufacturing CARCAM, intends to host a professional development activity entitled, “Skills for Today’s Technician: Multi-craft Maintenance and Tool and Die Maintenance.” CARCAM staff will conduct a full day session of intensive training on information gathered from multiple automotive manufacturer/supplier maintenance employees, including machinists and tool and die workers from Toyota’s assembly plant and Global Production Support training center in Georgetown, Kentucky.
An ideal participant will be a department chair of technical programs below the dean level, but responsible for more than one manufacturing-related technical area. The chair or another senior faculty member, who after receiving the training could then provide a similar professional development activity to manufacturing-related program faculty from EET, INT, DDT, MTT, ILT, WDT and similar program areas at the home institution, would be a desired participant.
The information to be presented was reviewed and refined in a three layered filtering process a DACUM and Delphi study by employees from BMW, Ford, GM, Toyota, and instructors from more than a dozen community colleges. The attendees will review a thorough analysis of job skills needed for entry, middle and senior level maintenance employees. They will also be provided with a breakdown of each task, the frequency of the tasks performed, and their importance.
